VSCO Film 03 for Lightroom 4

2/12/2013

VSCO Film 03 for Lightroom 4 Well the creative people over at Visual Supply Co have done it again. Today they released VSCO Film 03 for Lightroom 4 and ACR. These sets of presets are all about Instant, Fuji and Polaroid film emulations. In my short time testing them out, some of them are really incredible and stunning. There's also some really cool new things added to the toolkit.
This new set of presets comes with custom camera profiles for Fuji cameras, so all of the images in this post were taken with my Fuji X-Pro1. Some of them are probably reprocessing's of some photos you'll find elsewhere on the blog, but today's post is all about putting VSCO Film 03 through it's paces.
Keep reading to view a large selection of X-Pro1 images all processed with VSCO Film 03 for Lightroom 4.

  1. Some remind me of a light crossprocess version. Love these tones. I love the fact that these don't have grain/fade all over them.

    1. Hey! Yeah I could see that, a light cross processing. I've always learned more towards the more subtle VSCO presets, while some of these get pretty far out there :-)
They could have grain and fade all over them if you choose to do so in the toolkit.

  2. Welp, you've convinced me to upgrade to LR4 for these.

  3. All still shot with jpg? Love the tones here. I got this pack as well. I use Camera RAW...and it definitely gets a little crazy in the preset area with all the emulations! I'm just so used to ACR that I'm still sticking to it.
    Great stuff once again!

    1. Hey! Thanks man. Yeah I agree that was a major downside to ACR for me - was their presets lists are just an INSANELY long....list. It was hard to navigate. There's some great stuff in VSCO Film 03!

    2. And how much control do you have over the white balance with the jpg's?

    3. Hey Mike,
Well we're talking about Lightroom 4 - so right out of the gate I need to share with you that my personal opinion of the white balance tools in LR4 aren't very positive. They seem really out of control to me, almost like a gamble. I end up just trusting my own eye more than anything when I'm editing in LR4. But to answer your specific question, The X-Pro1 is quite good at white balance right out of the box, so there usually isn't a lot of correction needed - certainly nothing drastic.

What jpeg-settings do you find works best with VSCO Film 03?

    1. Hey thanks a lot.
I don't get too into custom JPEG settings but messing around with highlight and shadow tones can get you some cool results.
Most of it just having good light when you take the photo in my opinion.

  7. Hey Danny!

Congrats, great photos. When VSCo announced the instant films I was afraid the results might look over the top and cheap. It's really good to see how you can put them to subtle use. Beautiful!

One question: do you happen to know if there's an Aperture version in the works? Can't wait to try it out and still not willing to make the switch to Lr...

    1. Hey. Thanks for enjoying the photos. As they've released Aperture versions of all of their previous film packs so far, I'd bet there's also an Aperture version on the way. I'm with you - in that I MUCH prefer using Aperture.
